Call for FGS 2017 Conference Volunteers
If you're planning to attend the FGS 2017 Conference in Pittsburgh, PA, August 30 through September 2, consider volunteering. Volunteers help to make the conference a real success, and it's a great way to meet people, network, and give something back to the genealogical community. Volunteer opportunities are available from Monday, August 28 through Saturday, September 2. Volunteer training will be provided.
Reimbursement is available to those registered for the full conference (based on full early registration fee) and work a minimum of eight hours. Volunteers may prefer not to be reimbursed, or to have their reimbursement made as a donation to FGS. Volunteers do not have to be registered for the conference; however, those not registered may not attend sessions, monitor sessions, or receive reimbursement.
Reimbursement is based on the following schedule:
8 hours = 20%
12 hours = 40%
16 hours = 65%
Volunteer Jobs Available
Conference Bag Stuffing: Volunteers will place materials in conference bags. This activity will occur on Monday, 28 August 2017 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
Registration: Volunteers will assist at the registration desk Tuesday through Saturday and with other associated responsibilities. Registration volunteers are needed for the hours the registration desk is open plus one hour before and after.
Hospitality/Information Desk: Volunteers will assist with welcoming attendees, providing directions and general information, as well as seeing to their general comfort. (Tuesday-Saturday hours beginning 30 min. prior to registration hours).
Room Monitor: Monitors will report and assist with the needs of speakers and attendees in their room, check attendees for nametags, and survey needs in the room, etc. Volunteers will work in the assigned room for a minimum shift of the morning or afternoon sessions for that room (Wednesday–Saturday starting 15 min. prior to first assigned session start time).
Exhibit Hall: Volunteers are needed to monitor access to the exhibit hall during nonpublic hours all day Wednesday (set-up day), and Thursday through Saturday. Exhibitors will have unique badges that allow them access during non-public hours.
Technology Troubleshooting: A/V Volunteers will respond to room monitors and conference staff who have reports of technology needs in sessions, as well as other technology needs that arise (Wednesday-Saturday during session hours).
