Call for FGS 2016 Conference Volunteers
There are benefits to volunteering at an FGS Conference...
If you're planning to attend the FGS/ISGS 2016 Conference in Springfield, IL, 31 August through 3 September, consider volunteering. Volunteers help to make the conference a real success, and it's a great way to meet people, network, and give something back to the genealogical community. Volunteer opportunities are available before, during, or after the conference. Volunteer training will be provided.
Reimbursement is available to those registered for the full conference (based on full early registration fee). Volunteers may prefer not to be reimbursed, or to have their reimbursement made as a donation to FGS or the War of 1812 Preserve the Pension fund. Volunteers do not have to be registered for the conference; however, those not registered may not attend sessions, monitor sessions, or receive reimbursement.
Reimbursement is based on the following schedule:
8 hours = 20%
12 hours = 40%
16 hours = 65%
Conference Bag Stuffing: Volunteers will place materials in conference bags. This activity will occur on Monday, 29 August 2016.
Registration: Volunteers will assist at the registration desk and with other associated responsibilities (Tuesday-Saturday, one hour prior to and one hour after registration hours).
Hospitality/Information Desk: Volunteers will assist with welcoming attendees, providing directions and general information, as well as seeing to their general comfort. (Tuesday-Saturday hours beginning 30 min. prior to registration hours).
Room Monitor: Monitors will report and assist with the needs of speakers and attendees in their room, check attendees for nametags, and survey needs in the room, etc. Volunteers will work in the assigned room for a minimum shift of the morning or afternoon sessions for that room (Wednesday- Saturday 15 min. prior to assigned session).
Exhibit Hall: Volunteers are needed to monitor access to the exhibit hall during nonpublic hours all day Wednesday (set-up day), and when the exhibit hall is open Thursday through Saturday. Exhibitors will have unique badges that allow them access before public hours.
Technology Troubleshooting: Volunteers will respond to room monitors and conference staff who have reports of technology needs in sessions, as well as other technology needs that arise (Wednesday-Saturday during session hours).
