FGS 2015 - Fact Sheet

The Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) will hold its annual conference for 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah from Wednesday, February 11 to Saturday, February 14, 2015. 

  • FGS has 500+ member societies representing more than 500,000 genealogists.
  • FGS was formed in 1976 when it was chartered by the State of Illinois. The first national FGS conference was held in Decatur, Illinois in 1981. 
  • The 2015 conference will be held in conjunction with the fifth annual RootsTech conference, which is hosted by FamilySearch and brings together genealogists from around the world to learn about using technology to support genealogy research.
  • Attendees may register for either conference or upgrade to attend both for a small fee.
  • FGS and RootsTech will share the Salt Palace Convention Center (SPCC) located at 100 SW Temple in Salt Lake City. 
  • FGS and RootsTech will share an Expo Hall covering more than 120,000 square feet and offering at least 240 booth spaces along with a Demo Theater for special vendor presentations. Free exhibit hall passes will be available at registration for anyone not registered for either conference wishing to visit vendors.
  • FGS and RootsTech will share morning general sessions and evening activities. 
  • FGS and RootsTech will have separate programs featuring different presentations although some speakers may appear at both conferences. 
  • FGS 2015 attendees will chose from over 100 lectures presented by the nation's leading genealogical speakers. 
  • The Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown, Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek, Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, and Hilton Salt Lake City Center will serve as host hotels for both FGS and RootsTech. All four hotels are in walking distance of the Salt Palace Convention Center. See Lodging for details and hotel links. 
  • The SPCC and conference hotels are in walking distance of the Family History Library located at 35 North West Temple.
